Views going into this Paper.
Having started this HPE course it is leaving questions in my mind as to what I really know about this subject outside the standard views of Physical Education in schools that I have seen and been apart of as a student at school and here in the classroom. My High School experiences of PE were mostly negative and my memories of PE in Primary School are mostly positive (other than the cross country training) and my experiences of sport outside school are mostly positive as well.
The School environment for PE at my all boys' High School was a negative one, you needed to play rugby or cricket to be accepted by the PE teachers. I didn't, so I was not as accepted as those who did, and outside of school sports were shunned because they didn't reflect on the school and its values. But my experiences outside of school PE have given me such great exposure to new ad different things that school didn't seem to value. I have since school responded better to these activities and really see benefit in health education and physical activity be it team sports or individual sports.
